Hunt for an Abandoned Farm

I love photos of old and abandoned barns. I don't know why...they are slightly creepy, kind of pretty in an antique-ish way, and I like the country! So, Sunday Luke and I went for a little drive. My goal was to find an abandoned farm where I could snap a few shots of a dilapidated barn or silo or something. Ya know, this was a lot more difficult than I anticipated! Rob and I have driven up and down Rte. 47 on numerous occasions as we've traveled to and from my parents' house, and I remember seeing a lot of barns that looked like the slightest breeze could knock them over. And Sunday I did see many of these, however, the houses adjacent to them were very much occupied, and I wasn't in the mood to get busted for trespassing.

As I searched, I found a neat old fence on the side of the road. I strapped Luke to my back and took him for a little walk:

I actually gave up my search at this point, and started to head home. On my way back, though, something caught my eye on the horizon: a very, very cool looking dead tree. I headed that direction and found a small side road leading to the tree and a lone barn. There were no houses nearby, and the barn seemed to be unused. And old. Yay! I tried to be all stealth nontheless, lol. I had Luke with me and didn't want to get in trouble, obviously.

It was beginning to look like rain, and Luke was desperate to get out of his carseat, so we headed home.

So, if anyone knows of any neat, old farms or barns around here that I can take photos of, please tell me! It would be appreciated. I had a lot of fun with this, and want to try it again!

Melissa's Prairie Portraits

I don't know which I enjoy more: portrait photography or landscape/still life kind of stuff. I decided to do a little photoshoot for some practice (since I do foresee more portrait photography in my future), and Melissa was so kind as to be my model. I plan to do another shoot with her in the future, when the light is more like I desire (it was rather overcast when we did this shoot).

Thanks for being a great model, Lissa!

Road Closed

Thursdays I take a different route to work because I drop off Luke at his babysitter's those days. One particularly pretty morning, I randomly noticed a dirt road to nowhere (?) along my way. It looked so pretty, the way the sun filtered through the trees. I was determined to come back and get a few photos!

This morning I brought my camera with me because we are going to the county fair this evening. When I drove past my favorite spot, I was pleased to see that the road was looking very pretty, as usual!

I decided to play around in Photoshop a bit (thank you, Pioneer Woman, for the PS Action), too:

Guys, I'm kind of obsessed with this road.

First Hair Cut

I’m sorry it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Life gets busy, ya know? But I’ve managed to find a little time for my camera, and took it along for Luke’s first hair cut! Rob held Luke in his lap, and he was a very good boy. Luke, that is. I suppose Rob was good too, but I digress.

At first he didn't know what he hell was going on:

He warmed up pretty quickly, though!

Rockin' a little mohawk!

I like close-ups :).

And of course, my handsome husband:

Afternoon at the Park

Over the weekend, Luke and I took a little walk to the park at the Civic Center. He likes when I push him in the swing at the playground. I got some cute shots of him, and later had fun doing a little tweaking in Photoshop.

Little feet!

Heh heh I think this makes him look like a badass.

And for something a little brighter:

An Attempt at Macro

I love macro photography. One of the things on my wishlist is a macro lens. They're just a tad expensive, so I don't think I'll be seeing one any time soon. But a girl can dream!

For the meantime I'll simply have to make do with what I've got. Some people get great macro shots with just their Canon Powershots, right?

I did a lot of flowers - they're pretty. Not very original, but pretty!

And then there was this little bug, crawling on a daylily stem:

Well, I guess this will have to do for now! But I'm still majorly jonesing for a macro lens.

New Camera!

Proof that my husband rocks:

This is what he gave me Friday night as a (two-week early) birthday gift!! Yay!!

It's a Canon Digital Rebel XSi. My little Nikon point-and-shoot has been driving me up the wall lately with mysteriously blurry photos, and I have been itching for an SLR camera of my own after borrowing Schuelke's camera on multiple occasions.

Let the fun begin!
